Babies playgroups
Playgroups are great for babies and there are many social benefits for new parents.
It is often while visiting the Child Health Clinic that young parents meet others and this can be a good starting place for a regular baby playgroup. The child health nurse may know of a room your playgroup can use for meetings each week, or families may start with a home-based playgroup.
Existing playgroups welcome babies and some also have regular baby sessions.
As the babies in the group grow, members may want to consider other playgroup options such as:
- gradually introducing more activities for the children
- inviting other families to join
- joining a playgroup in the neighbourhood, and
- moving to a bigger venue
Tips for baby playgroups
- Be flexible – babies don’t always work to schedules
- Ask each parent to bring a play mat and toys for their own child
- Be safety conscious
- Consider other social activities with the families you meet
- Make the most of this quality time and enjoy yourself!
