Playgroup WA will deliver the Road Aware Parents project to members and the wider community thanks to a partnership with SDERA (School Drug Education & Road Aware).
"We're so pleased to be working with SDERA to deliver such a relevant project to the public," said Playgroup WA CEO Debbie Terelinck.
Debbie said the Memorandum of Understanding - signed in September 2007 - focuses on improving road safety outcomes for children aged 0-4 years.
"The key initiative is Smart Steps, a parent and carer education program pertaining to the use of child car restraints and general passenger safety, safe pedestrian practices and safe places to play," Debbie said.
Key strategies in the project include:
- Playgroup WA staff becoming trained in the delivery of Smart Steps
- integration of Smart Steps into a Child Safe Environments Workshop being developed by Playgroup WA over the coming months
articles in our eNewsletter, Interaction magazine and website promoting Smart Steps, and - sponsorship of our Fun Day on 7 November 2008.
More details will be provided to playgroups as the project progresses.
