What is a Playgroup?

What is a Playgroup?

Playgroups are set up and run by parents and carers. In a playgroup, parents and carers stay and play with their children and also help them to play with other children. At playgroups, children choose from a range of activities set up by the parents. Playgroups are for children from birth to 5 years (school age). They usually meet on a weekly basis for a period of 1-2 hours. Playgroups take place in a variety of settings including kindergartens, schools, church halls, community centres, parks and even people's homes.

There are over 500 playgroups within South Australia including rural and remote areas. If you would like to find out where your nearest playgroup is, please call Playgroup SA on
