What is MyTime?
MyTime is the name given to the Peer Support Groups for Parents of Young Children with Disabilities Program funded by the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).
MyTime is a peer support program for parents caring for children with high and complex needs. MyTime groups aim to complement specialist early childhood intervention programs and the suite of services funded by FaHCSIA including Supported Playgroups and Intensive Supported Playgroups.
The aim of establishing facilitated peer support groups for parents of young children with disabilities is to improve outcomes for the parents by giving them the opportunity to meet, socialise, and learn from other people in similar family situations. The program will also have a strong parent education component. It is intended that the program will build skills, foster shared responsibilities, and strengthen the capacity of the whole community to support parents of young children with disabilities.
