Busy Butterflies
The World’s Biggest Gluten Free Morning Tea and Successful Grant Celebration, held on Monday 24 May 2010 by the Busy Butterflies Playgroup was an outstanding success.
Event organiser and Playgroup spokesperson Brianne Falconieri was inspired to organise the morning tea following the deaths earlier this year of two of her grandparents from cancer. The playgroup raised over $500 for cancer research.
As well as being a fundraiser, the morning tea was also a time of celebration for Busy Butterflies’ recent grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund which provided $2,363 for toys and $1,430 for a marquee to be shared among local playgroups.
The morning tea took place outside at the Upper Ross Community Centre which has recently become the regular venue for Busy Butterflies Playgroup. The outdoor garden setting with a large covered shade area and a great sandpit and playground equipment make it ideal for playgroups.
As well as regular Busy Butterflies Playgroup members, several new recruits were welcomed along with members of the Migi Stars Indigenous Playgroup and special guests Councillor Jenny Lane and Holly Ballantyne (the playgroup’s facilitator until Easter) and her son Ian.
“I am so proud and grateful to all of you for your support and community spirit toward such a worthy cause,” Brianne said, “And it was great to have Councillor Jenny Lane come along and draw our raffle for us.”
“We were very lucky to be supported by Orgran Foods and Freedom Foods who supplied Gluten Free foods for our morning tea. In addition we are very grateful to Lamberts Fresh Produce, Entropy, Tadman Jewellers and Playgroup Queensland who supplied products or vouchers for the raffle and auction,” Brianne continued. “A further $100 was donated by Wilson/Ryan/Grose Lawyers and together with online donations we reached over $500 – a terrific result!”
Busy Butterflies Playgroup is looking forward to a great year with re-energised members and plenty of new toys and equipment to be enjoyed.
