PlayMatters Conference 2008

Play Matters Conference Registration Playgroup NSW held its Supported Playgroup Conference on Friday 29th August.

The second NSW Supported Playgroup and Play Conference was held in Sydney on Friday 29th August 2008. After the great success of the Inaugral Conference, this conference again further explored the place of play and playgroups in early childhood and the human services sector.

The conference was attended by professionals from a wide range of backgrounds, including playgroup staff, allied health professionals, government and non government representatives, and academics. It focused on the concept and importance of play for babies and children under 5 and the relationship to successful models of supported and special purpose playgroups designed to deliver services to families in NSW or beyond.

This broad, holistic and collaborative approach to play and playgroup delivery and provide a platform to showcase new initiatives and innovative programs. Exploring policy, practice and research aspects of play and supported playgroup services in an interactive way that informed and inspired practitioners and professionals from a wide range of disciplines.

Streams included:

  • Research and new learnings on play and playgroups
  • Innovative approaches to playgroup provision
  • Working with families from diverse backgrounds
  • Activities for establishing and supporting playgroups in community settings

The day also featured a number of Roundtable Peer Discussions and networking opportunities.

The presentation discussed how EarlyEd Early Childhood Intervention Mobile Playgroup provides a means of communicating with CALD families to target these issues and to empower families in facilitating development of their child.

The presentation promoted the "Seven Ways" through children's play at playgroup. Providing positive outcomes for families, building respectful relationships, family connectedness and raising healthy, communicating, social and feeling children.
