Playgroup 2008 - Parents ConferencePlaygroup 2008 will be held on 30 August 2008.Venue: Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club, 24 - 28 John Street, Lidcombe. Best-selling children's author Mem Fox is returning as our keynote speaker and if you know anyone who has heard her talk, then you'll know that it is an event not to be missed. Mem is a world-renown author and a powerful and engaging early literacy advocate. She will speak on the importance of reading and sharing books with children. By the end of her talk, you'll be inspired to read to your children, in awe of her amazing passion and wiping away the tears of laughter! The conference will commence at 9.00am and conclude at 3:30pm. As well as Mem's keynote address, there will be interactive workshops, the awards presentation of the prestigious Volunteer of the Year, Playgroup of the Year and Zone of the Year and, of course the Annual General Meeting. Interactive workshopsJungle Music, presented by Paul Myatt a Director of Forte School of Music. Forte’s Jungle Music programme for young children presents music in a variety of modes, visually, kinaesthetically, and aurally, which enhances children's ability to absorb and act on musical concepts. At Forte they have developed a process that allows even very young children to take on board musical concepts through exposure to a multi sensory learning process.
The Books Binding Families Program was conducted by 17 supported playgroups across South West Sydney this project assisted families to create their own books from low cost materials. This project helped develop positive interactions between parent and child, develop literacy skills of shared attention and conversation, whilst providing experiences which make reading and sharing books more familiar and positive for parents and children.
Sue Greig is a PhD Candidate based at Centre for Emotional Health, Department of Psychology, MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY NSW. Sue will explain what is “emotional regulation for pre school aged children” , she will explore and elaborate on what we know so far and what the research is telling us, as well as enhance our understanding of the difference between behaviour development and emotional development. Please note: Playgroup 2008 is an event for adults, a time for grown-ups to learn, share and enjoy each others company without children. Only breastfed babies can be admitted. |
