Starting a Playgroup

Playgroup NSW provides information and advice to groups interested in starting a playgroup or forming an additional session to an existing playgroup.

People may be interested in starting a playgroup due to;

  • The mothers group they are part of may wish to continue to meet, but in a venue more suited to the growing needs of the children
  • The local playgroups cannot accommodate new members and have a waiting list
  • There is no existing playgroup in the area, or newly developing area
  • The existing playgroup is not held on a day which is convenient for the families
  • A group of families may have an interest in forming a special interest playgroup – family day care, fathers group, Montessori, Steiner, ethno specific etc

As it is essential that playgroups be fully covered for insurance purposes, Playgroup NSW offers a membership package with insurance coverage designed specifically for playgroups.

Alternatively if a playgroup is certain it has adequate insurance coverage and would like to access some of the services provided by Playgroup NSW, Associate Membership - Playgroup is available.

Further information on all aspects of starting a playgroup, or affiliating a playgroup with Playgroup NSW, can be obtained by contacting Karen Pollard. Playgroup NSW also provides on-going support and resources to affiliated playgroups.
