Spring into Playgroup!!!

Spring into Playgroup! is a Playgroup NSW initiative to drive new membership this spring. With the weather getting warmer, our feedback is families are looking for activities to get them out and about. What better place to go with your babies and children who are under 5, than Playgroup?

A Playgroup is a group of mums, dads, grandparents and caregivers, who meet together each week with their children for interaction and fun.

Open to everyone caring for children from birth to school age, a playgroup is a fantastic place to share stories about your children, receive advice from others and make friends. Babies and children under 5 experience rapid brain and skill development and for optimum development need a stimulating environment to play and learn. Playgroup offers a wide variety of early learning experiences to learn about the world, make friends and develop social skills.

Playgroup NSW Chief Executive Officer Deb Ryan said playgroup offers parents and carers the chance to make relationships that support them outside of their own existing network of family and friends.

“We have very enthusiastic volunteers running our local playgroups” said Ms Ryan.“The spring member drive is to encourage people who may feel isolated, need additional support or just want to get out of their own home. A local playgroup will introduce to parents and carers to a range of people. Playgroups help make a community since it encourages interaction with some friendships lasting many years.”

Playgroup NSW runs a range of playgroups servicing many needs. From local 'generic' community playgroups to ones for those with specific special needs or for groups with special interests such as grandparents, young parents or those from particular cultural groups - there's a playgroup to suit everyone!

Could Your Playgroup Benefit from Having More Members?

For Playgroups who aren't at their capacity, this is a great time to promote your Playgroup. We're sending out press releases to the local community papers throughout NSW and if you have any contacts in your local paper, please give them a push to see if they'll write a story about how amazing you are.

Prize
The Playgroup that increases their membership by the greatest percentage wins a $400 prize containing children's and parenting books and activity packs.

Each prize pack also contains a Handy Manny On-the-Job Tool Belt for your child and a $100 Bunnings gift voucher to deck out your playgroup with all the best tools to get the job done – thanks to Playhouse Disney.

There are two prizes - one for the metro playgroup and one for the rural playgroup that increases their membership the most.

At the end of November, Playgroup NSW will calculate the number of new memberships via the database and announce the winners on the website.

Three Steps to Increasing Membership

We're asking you to do three things to encourage membership.

Step 1

Personalise the Playgroup flyers with your session days and times and print out as many as you want to promote your playgroup in your local area. Put these up wherever you can (seek permission when required) ie your local community health centre, local shops, community noticeboards, library, Churches and if your council permits - on the gates / fences of the local parks.

Step 2

Submit details of your Playgroup's session times to your local paper for inclusion in their 'Community Noticeboard' or 'What's On' section.

Step 3

Personalise and send or present a letter to your local health centre, library, Church or any community organisation that will promote your Playgroup for you.

If your group would like to have more resources, Playgroup NSW also has available a number of posters and brochures that you can circulate in your local community. Call us on 1800 171 882 to request the promotional material.
