Additional NeedsPlaygroups are intended to meet the needs of everyone within the community, including Aboriginal, non-English speaking background and special needs families.Families with Additional NeedsOne of the special joys of a playgroup is that it brings together families from every possible background, all sharing the common goal of having fun with their children. Playgroups are intended to meet the needs of everyone within the community, including families with additional needs. Additional needs' families may include, but are not limited to:
- Children or parents with a disability
- Culturally diverse families
- Indigenous families, and
- Families that require assistance in integrating into a playgroup setting for a specific reason.
Support is available to families with additional needs wanting to attend or attending a playgroup. Playgroup NSW staff assist families with additional needs to find a welcoming community playgroup, or a special needs playgroup appropriate to their circumstances. "support is available to all playgroup families"Families from a Culturally Diverse BackgroundAs an Association, we encourage both linguistically or culturally specific Playgroups, providing an opportunity for families of non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB) to become familiar with the idea of Playgroup. Multicultural and linguistically specific Playgroups provide an opportunity to exchange cultural experiences and values in a creative and friendly atmosphere.
The Association’s Cultural Diversity Consultant’s role is to raise awareness of CALD Playgroups in communities and to work closely with organisations and community workers who are supporting families of non-English speaking backgrounds. The Cultural Diversity Consultant can assist in establishing Playgroups or including clients into existing Playgroups and is also committed to raising awareness of CALD issues in mainstream Playgroups.
Playgroup NSW has brochures available to assist culturally diverse members and playgroups. For further information telephone 1800 171 882 or email Anna Robinson, Playgroup's NSW Cultural Diversity Consultant.
