Early Intervention Programs

Early Intervention Programs

Early intervention services provide targeted support to vulnerable children and families. The early intervention programs are designed to build the resilience of families and children. Playgroup NSW runs a number of early intervention playgroups with the aim of targeting families who would not otherwise be able to access a mainstream community playgroup.

The importance of early childhood prevention and early intervention programs is based on the premise that the first few years of a child's development are crucial in setting the foundation for lifelong learning, behavior and health outcomes (McCain and Mustard 1999; Gauntlett, Hugman, Kenyon and Logan 2000). We all know the importance of playgroup in a child’s development and a parent’s social and support network.

The early intervention programs target families who will benefit from playgroups most, such as:

  • First time mothers/parents
  • Isolated communities
  • CALD communities
  • Indigenous communities
  • Young parents
  • Single parents
  • Rural areas
  • Parents with children who have a disability (My Time)
  • Parents with children who have a Autism Spectrum disorders (PlayConnect)
