The first ten PlayConnect Playgroups for families with young children with autism and ASD like symptoms, are now commencing!
That’s the announcement made today in Melbourne. Playgroup Australia in conjunction with Playgroup Victoria was delighted to host a special celebration luncheon attended by families with children with autism, and Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin, and Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services, Bill Shorten.
At today’s event, the Minister and Mr Shorten delivered the eagerly-anticipated news about the first ten PlayConnect Playgroups to start this year.
PlayConnect Playgroups have recently commenced in:
NSW
o Campbelltown - Hurley Park Hall
o Wagga Wagga- Playgroup NSW Centre at Lake Albert
PlayConnect Playgroups in the following regions will commence before the end of 2008:
QLD
o Mackay , Toowoomba, Cairns
NSW
o Canterbury, Blacktown
VIC
o Maribyrnong, Banyule, Hobson’s Bay
“These targeted playgroups offer play-based learning opportunities for children and social support networks for their families and carers, including those from Indigenous or culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as in rural and remote areas,” Ms Macklin said.
Playgroup Australia invites families and other interested individuals or organisations, to telephone, fax or email, to express their interest in a PlayConnect Playgroup in their region.
