Playgroup Australia and its member Associations manage the following nationally funded programs:
Community Playgroups
Community Playgroups are run by the families who attend, and all members are involved in the planning and organisation of activities. Playgroups are unique in that adults attend with their children and are activley involved in each playgroup session.
Supported Playgroups provide opportunities for parents and children who would not normally access a playgroup to enhance their relationship in a supportive environment, increase their skills and confidence, and to develop valuable social and family support networks. Supported Playgroups aim to empower families to support young children's development through provision and participation in a variety of developmentally appropriate play experiences and activities.
PlayConnect Playgroups will offer play-based learning opportunities for children with ASD or ASD like symptoms, and create and extend social support networks for their families and carers. These Playgroups will also connect families and carers to resources available in their local area and to other elements of the Helping Children with Autism Package.
Playgroup Australia has received funding to establish 150 PlayConnect Playgroups nationally over the next 4 years.
Fifty (50) PlayConnect Playgroups will be established nationally between October 2008 and June 2009. A further 100 PlayConnect Playgroups will start by 30 June 2011.
