Research conducted by Playgroup Australia to mark Autism Awareness Month, 2010 has confirmed the enormous benefit that families receive from playgroups developed specifically for children diagnosed with autism. 

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the benefits of PlayConnect Playgroups was commissioned to obtain feedback from parents and carers on their experiences with PlayConnect and measure attitudes towards playgroups designed specifically for children with ASD.  The results indicate that participation in PlayConnect playgroups provides a valuable experience for children and carers.  PlayConnect families feel:

  • Connected with others who are experiencing parenting a child with ASD
  • There has been an improvement in their child's development
  • More confident caring for their child with ASD
  • Better informed about ASD specific support services
