Playgroup Australia is the national peak and administrative body for playgroups in Australia.

Playgroup Australia is a federation of the eight peak State and Territory Playgroup Associations across Australia who collectively represent more than 105,000 families and 145,000 children at 8,500 playgroup sessions every week. The national office is located in Brisbane.

Not-for-profit organisation
Playgroup Australia is a not-for-profit organisation reliant on community and member organisation support. All funds raised by or on behalf of the organisation are re-invested through its own activities or that of its member organisations into the development and promotion of playgroup activities across Australia. With the announcement of Deductible Gift Recipient status all donations over $2 to Playgroup Australia are now tax deductible.

Administration
The administration of Playgroup Australia is undertaken by the office based in Brisbane. This office facilitates negotiations with the Commonwealth Government and other national bodies in support of its member associations.

Its key purposes are to:

  • coordinate those activities that are best managed at a national level;
  • advocate for playgroups where a national outcome is sought;
  • provide a regular forum for exchange of ideas and information between members;
  • provide a national voice for playgroups; and
  • promote access to playgroup for all parents and carers with young children
