Finding a playgroup that is suitable for you
In the ACT playgroups are run by the members in each group and so vary greatly in how they run and what they can offer you and your family. While some groups are quite structured, others are informal and others still are a mixture of both. With this in mind ACT Playgroups recommends that you gather details of two or three groups to find the one that is most suitable for your family.
In order to find a playgroup in your area, you can choose one of the following options:
- To find group details online please click here for playgroups listed by region, or here for playgroups listed by day of the week.
- To talk to us personally, please ring 1800 171 882 during our office hours (Mon - Fri 9.30am - 2.30pm - school terms only).
- To receive information by email please send us an email with your name and email address, suburb, age of your child/ren, and days you are available to attend playgroup. Our email address for enquiries is playgroupsact@ixa.net.au
I have the contact details, what next?
Once you have the details for some playgroups, please ring or email the contacts for some more information about their group. Remember that the contacts are parents/carers just like you who have volunteered to be the link to their group. They too have families and other things happening in their lives so if you need to leave a message and they don't get back to you straight away, be patient. You might need to try again in a few days, or at a different time of day, but please be considerate.

- Arrange a date with the contact person to start attending the group and you'll be well on your way to enjoying time with your children and new friends at playgroup.
Membership
Note: You are allowed two free visits at your local playgroup before you need to join the ACT Playgroups Association Inc. Annual membership provides you with insurance while at playgroup or on playgroup activities, access to the quarterly Totline magazine, an Australian Baby Card (for discounts at businesses and services in the ACT and interstate), as well as other benefits. Your membership will expire on the first of the month following the month in which you joined, in one year's time. For example, if you join on the 14th of February 2012, your membership will expire on the 1st of March 2013. For the current membership cost, please check the membership form.
